John F. Centonze, M.D.

John F. Centonze, M.D.

John F. Centonze, M.D. earned his medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo while on a Uniformed Services Health Professions Scholarship. Graduating cum laude, he was additionally awarded the Norman A. Haber Award presented to the student with exceptional skills in the field of otolaryngology. He completed his internship in general surgery at the Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, Virginia, and his residency in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at the Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, Virginia. Dr. Centonze served in the United States Navy for 10 years, receiving both the Navy Achievement and Navy Commendation Medals and numerous decorations for meritorious service. Before moving to the Finger Lakes, his most recent military position was as the Chief of Otolaryngology at Naval Hospital, Charleston, South Carolina.

Dr. Centonze is Board Certified in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. He is a Fellow in the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and a Fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy. In addition, he is a member of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the AMA and medical Society of the State of New York.

Currently, Dr. Centonze holds active medical staff privileges at Thompson Health and Wayne-Newark Community Hospital. He also has courtesy staff privileges at Nicholas Noyes Hospital. Additionally, he is currently Chairman of the Medical Records Committee at F.F. Thompson Hospital. He has served as past president of the Medical staff at FF Thompson Hospital, current vice president of the Medical Staff, and past chief of surgery at Newark Community Hospital.

Dr. Centonze practices all aspects of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery with a special interest in sinus surgery, voice disorders, and facial cosmetic surgery.

Dr. Centonze joined Finger Lakes Otolaryngology in October 1996. He resides in Victor with his wife and two stepdaughters. His daughter resides and works in Boston and his son is furthering his education in Oregon.

Carol Henn-Staino, Au. D.

Carol Henn-Staino, Au. D.

Carol Henn-Staino, Au.D. received a Master's of Science Degree from Syracuse University, and Doctor of Audiology Degree from the Arizona School of Health Sciences.  In addition, she obtained a Certificate in Computer Science from Hofstra University, and specializes in the digital signal processing of hearing aid technology.  Dr. Henn-Staino has over 25 years of experience evaluating and providing hearing aids for patients of all ages. She joined MD Hearing Solutions in July 2014 because she shares in its mission to offer exceptional hearing care services and products, at affordable prices. Dr. Henn-Staino resides in Farmington with her family.

Jay Andross – Family Nurse Practitioner

Jay Andross

Jay M Andross, FNP earned his bachelor of science degree from the Univesity Of Rochester where he graduated summa cum laude. He completed his master of science degree in Advanced Practice Nursing at St John Fisher College, specializing in Family practice. He received the scholarly achievement award from the president of St. John Fisher college,which is presented to the student who has earned the highest GPA and has demonstrated academic excellence. Mr.Andross also received the Rochester Area Colleges outstanding adult student award, and was a three time recipient of the Thiem Scholarship award for academic achievement.

Mr. Andross is nationally certified through the American Academy of Nurse Practioners. In addition he is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the American academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Mr Andross joined finger lakes otolaryngology in 2014. He resides in Canandaigua with his wife and daughter.

Mary Rose Cook – Licensed Practical Nurse

Mary Rose Cook

Mary Rose Cook graduated from Marion S. Whalen School of Practical Nursing in 1980. She worked at Geneva General for 15 years. She has been in the health care field for over 30 years with experience in cardiology, urology and orthopedics.

Mary Rose has been with Finger Lakes Otolaryngology for 7 years, where she specializes in allergy testing, injections and teaching allergy immunology. She lives in Waterloo, NY and has three adult children. Mary Rose enjoys spending quality time with her family.

Karen VanBortel – Billing and Coding Manager

Karen has been with Finger Lakes Otolaryngology for 25 years. Through her tenure with the company she has worn many hats and has served in every facet of the business. She currently serves as the company's Billing and Coding Manager and is a Certified Billing and Coding Specialist.

Karen has many hobbies: bowling, travel, reading, baking and cooking when she has time.

She lives in Shortsville, New York with her two cats; Hannah and Sis.

Lisa Schutt – Medical Secretary

Lisa has been with our team since 1998. She is a Medical Assistant/Secretary in the Newark office. She resides in Lyons with her significant other Gerry and her son Dryden. She enjoys Camping, Shopping and spending time with family.

Dawn Follette – Medical Assistant

Dawn Follette: Dawn has been with our family of professionals since 2001. She spent the first few years working in our Canandaigua location and then joined the Newark team in 2008. She came to us from Midlakes Management where she was a Medical Secretary. She is now our Medical Receptionist & Secretary and part-time Surgical Scheduler. She resides in Lyons with her husband Bob, and her two sons; Steve and Ben, as well as her two cats and two dogs. She enjoys camping, motorcycle riding and going to garage sales.

Corrine Simmons (Cory) – Medical Assistant

Corrine Simmons (Cory) graduated from Finger Lakes Community College with a degree in Business Administration in 2007. She has been with Finger Lakes Otolaryngology for four years as a Medical Assistant to her father , Dr. Simmons. She enjoys the people she works with and finds that taking care of patients is truly rewarding. Cory resides in Canandaigua, NY with her two cats; McLovin and Michaels. Cory has two brothers Adam and Conner and one sister Austin. Cory grew up in a medical family where her mother was a social worker and father is a doctor. Cory enjoys snow skiing, taking walks, swimming, and spending time with her family and friends.

Merna Dangle – Part-time Billing and Collections Specialist

Merna Dangle

Merna M. Dangle has 34 years experience in healthcare which includes 27 years in physcian billing, 6 years hospital billing as well as administrative management and physician practice services. Merna was instrumental in forming the backbone of Mid-Lakes Management before her retirement. Merna has a degree in Business Management with a secondary degree in accounting.

Merna was born in Williamsport PA and moved to the Finger Lakes in 1969. She has one daughter and 2 grandchildren. Her hobbies are reading, knitting, quilting and camping. She enjoys spending time with her family.

Merna currently handles our collections, patient payments as well all billing for allergy and office visits for the practice.

Julie Gilbert – Part-time Accounts Payable

Julie Gilbert

Julie is an employee of Tette & Ingersoll CPA. She has been with the company for fifteen years. Julie is a certified accountant and spends two days a week working out of the Newark office preparing payables, payroll and bookkeeping for Finger Lakes Otolaryngology. Julie lives in Newark, NY with her daughter and husband. She enjoys golfing and spending time outdoors in the summer.
